Chennai's tourism offers many potentially interesting locations to visitors. A notable tourist attraction in Chennai is actually in the neighbouring town of Mahabalipuram,

 with its ancient temples and rock carvings of the 7th century Pallavakingdom is an UNESCO World Heritage site

The Chennai Metropolitan Area is one of the largest municipal economies of India. Chennai is nicknamed "The Detroit of India",[2]with more than one-third of India's automobile industry being based in the city. 
 Home to the Tamil film industry, Chennai is also known as a major film production centre. 
 Chennai has been selected as one of the 100 Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under Smart Cities Mission.[29]


 Chennai had been the most visited city in India by foreign tourists consecutively from 2010[2] to 2012,[3][4] overtaking New Delhi and Mumbai with visitors to heritage sites in Kanchipuram and Mahabalipuram and medical tourists making up the largest numbers.

Chennai was ranked 9th in travel guide Lonely Planet's 2015 top 10 cities ranking.In 2011, Chennai was ranked 41st in global top 100 city destination ranking, with 3,174,500 tourists, a 14 percent increase from 2010,[5] This is up from 2,059,900 tourists in 2009, when Chennai was the third most visited city in India by foreigners ranked after Delhi and Mumbai.

Tamil nadu—Thenni tourism

Theni is a town situated in Madurai Region of Tamil Nadu. It is known for the large-scale trading of garliccottoncardamomgrapes, mango and chilli. It hosts the second largest weekly market in Tamil Nadu and the fourth largest in South India. Theni district Headquarter's is Located in Theni. Theni district is Located in Madurai Region. 

Meghamalai, Vellimalai are nearby hill stations. Vaigai Dam, Sothuparai Dam and Shanmuganadhi Dam are the visitable water reservoirs of Theni District. Other tourist spots include, Kumbakkarai Falls, Veerapandi, and KuranganiKolukkumalai, Top station. Hill station Munnar is also in close proximity.The water of the falls is always cooler than 10oC. 
 The TN government has recently recognized kumbakarai falls as a tourist place. this initiative has led to the attraction of many tourists across Tamilnadu, Kerala, and Karnataka .

Suruli Falls ( சுருளி அருவி) which is situated in Surulipatti of Theni district (7.0 km from Cumbum, Tamil Nadu|Cumbum] is a local waterfall . 
It is well-connected by road to all the important cities in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil nadu—virudhunagar tourism

Virudhunagar is a town and the administrative headquarters of the Virudhunagar district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located 506 km (314 mi) southwest of the state capital Chennai and 53 km (33 mi) south of Madurai.
 the town had a population of 72,296. As the administrative headquarters of the district, the town's economy is based on the service sector, which employs 93 per cent of the total world
 Roadways are the main means of transportation, while the town also has rail connectivity. The nearest airport is Madurai Airport, located 45 km (28 mi) north-east of the town. There are 14 secondary schools, two colleges of arts and sciences (one for men and one for women), one polytechnic college, Three Engineering Colleges (Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology, Sri Vidya, AAA) and three university study centres.
 The remaining 7 per cent is employed in agriculture, mining, quarrying, raising livestock, manufacturing, construction, trade and commerce.

Located to the east of Kowsika River, Virudhunagar has an average elevation of 102 m (335 ft) above sea level and is largely flat with no major geological formations. The town has a humid climate and receives 780 mm (31 in) rainfall annually.. ,  

Tamil nadu—kovai tourism

Kovai and Koyamuthur, is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of the Noyyal River and surrounded by the Western Ghats. Coimbatore is the second largest city by area and population in Tamilnadu after Chennai and the 16th largest urban agglomeration in India.
  It is administered by the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation and is the administrative capital of Coimbatore Coimbatore was part of Kongu Nadu during the Sangam period between c.
 1st and the 4th centuries CE and was ruled by the Cheras as it served as the eastern entrance to the Palakkad Gap, the principal trade route between the west coast (Kerala) and Tamil Nadu).
 Coimbatore was located along the ancient trade route that extended from Muziris to Arikamedu in South India. The medieval Cholas conquered the Kongu Nadu in the 10th century CE
 The region was ruled by Vijayanagara Empire in the 15th century followed by the Nayaks who introduced the Palayakkarar system under which Kongu Nadu region was divided into 24 Palayams
 In 1804, Coimbatore was established as the capital of the newly formed Coimbatore district and in 1866 it was accorded municipality status with Robert Stanes as its chairman.

   In the later part of the 18th century, the Coimbatore region came under the Kingdom of Mysore and following the defeat of Tipu Sultan in the Anglo-Mysore Wars, the British East India Company annexed Coimbatore to the Madras Presidency in 1799. The Coimbatore region played a prominent role in the Second Poligar War (1801) when it was the area of operations of Dheeran Chinnamalai.
 November 24 used to be Coimbatore Day, say those familiar with the history of Coimbatore.[10] The city experienced a textile boom in the early 19th century due to the decline of the cotton industry in Mumbai. Post independence, Coimbatore has seen rapid growth due to industrialisation. Coimbatore was ranked the best emerging city in India by India Today in the 2014 annual Indian city survey. The city was ranked fourth among Indian cities in investment climate by Confederation of Indian Industry and 17th among the top global outsourcing cities by Tholons.
